Internships
In order to obtain an internship at the Fall River Police Department an individual must:
- Fill out an application
Applications are available in the Fall River Police Department lobby.
- Be college sponsored
Applicant needs the internship for college as a class or for graduation.
Individuals must bring in documentation from the college and necessary paperwork to be filled out.
- Participate in the interview process
There will be an interview with the Deputy Chief of Administration. Interview will take an 1 hour to
1 1/2 hours. Background checks will be done as well as a Criminal Offender Record Information
checks.
Internships for the field of law enforcement/Criminal Justice, and/or computer science are the most
frequent.
Internships are conducted a semester at a time. A minimum of 120 hours for internships are usually
required. Applicant works with Fall River Police Department to establish hours convenient to both student
and Department.
Applicants should apply one semester prior to desired internship.
Example: If desired internship is in the Spring semester an individual should apply in the Fall
semester.
The Fall River Police Department has been operating internship programs for approximately twenty years.
We can accommodate up to 2 interns per semester. To date approximately 40 college students have completed
successful internships with the Fall River Police Department.
The internship teaches college students the many facets of municipal policing in a large department.
The bulk of work consists of everyday writing, filing, reporting work, but there are some occasional
interesting topics like forensic work, radar operation, photography, fingerprinting, working with domestic
violence detectives, ride-alongs, etc.
